Mission Statement

Partners HealthCare is committed to supporting physicians and other healthcare professionals with education for providing the highest quality patient care. Through learning activities, Partners physicians and other healthcare professionals will address ways to improve clinical decision making, enhance patient management strategies, interpret new clinically relevant findings, and analyze health policy. Our activities will identify practice gaps to improve practice, integrate new findings, and implement state-of-the-art patient care. We will offer established and innovative learning options including live activities, performance improvement projects, self-directed learning and e-learning in all areas of healthcare. Our goal is to improve physicians’ competency, performance and/or patient outcomes, and measure these changes quantitatively and qualitatively.

Accreditation

As an accredited CME provider, Partners can designate AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ for activities that meet ACCME requirements for Partners affiliated institutions and provide joint or co-sponsorship with selected outside entities. We are committed to improving quality patient care through excellence in learning opportunities that address effective, compassionate and safe patient care.

Activity Type information

The Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) divides educational activities up into categories according to venue or mode of presentation .
There are specific requirements that vary from category to category so it is incumbent on an activity director to become familiar with these distinctions when they are undertaking the instructional design of a particular activity proposal. The notion that ‘one size fits all’ and that any activity can be presented as a live symposium is a common misconception. Some types of information will best lend itself to a workshop, weekly series, or on-line archived offering depending on the content and goals of the intervention. Please see the glossary listing of different activity types for your reference.

Health Care Reform information

Although traditional teaching formats like live symposia lectures still offer significant value, there is an increasing emphasis being placed on innovative educational interventions that align with the goals of health care reform.

For example, team based and Inter-Professional Education (IPE) activities, evidence based curricula establishing competency milestones, activities that incorporate the basic principles of Dissemination and Implementation (D&I) Science, ‘just-in-time’ and ‘point-of-care’ interventions that are embedded in the day-to-day work flow of health care providers, and activities that integrate educational interventions with performance and quality improvement initiatives demonstrating validated outcome and impact metrics.
